The Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) has granted registration to Werribee Community College as a school for year levels 11 and 12, located at 4 Synnot St, Werribee VIC 3030. Additionally, the VRQA has approved the school’s application to deliver senior secondary Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) Vocational Major (VM) and Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC).
Wyndham Community and Education Centre (Wyndham CEC) will celebrate 50 years of delivering education programs and community services to the Wyndham community in October this year. As part of its services, Wyndham CEC has delivered Year 11 and 12 senior secondary programs as a non-school senior secondary registered provider since 2005. The program, established by CEO Jennie Barrera, has catered to thousands of students over the years, who have become disengaged or not experienced success in mainstream schools.
Wyndham CEC applied to register a school in 2023 and was granted registration on 22 December 2023.
Board President, Mr Jeffrey Lai said “it’s incredibly exciting for Wyndham CEC to have been able to register Werribee Community College as an independent school in operation in Victoria in its anniversary year. Every student deserves an equal education, and all students are capable of succeeding, some just need more support and encouragement to do so.”
Werribee Community College recognises that all young people have the right to quality educational opportunities that improve their lives and strengthen their capacity for success in the future of life and work. The College strives to provide an education that allows students to participate positively regardless of their life circumstances and the barriers to learning they may have experienced.
“It was wonderful to see the doors open as a newly registered school for the beginning of the 2024 school year,” said John Sheen, Director of Education. “It was a lot of work to get the school registered, but it was certainly worth it.”
